Angry Matano slams referee after disallowing late goal against Gor

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 9 – Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has slammed the referees who oversaw their match against Gor Mahia after the center referee disallowed a late goal at Ruaraka Sports Complex on Saturday.

With the match destined for a draw, attacking midfielder Jackson Macharia looked like Tusker’s hero when he scored in the dying minutes of the match, but after allowing the goal the center referee disallowed it.

This is after the protest of Gor Mahia players who saw the game interrupted for a few minutes before the referee called the game after a section of K’Ogalo fans threw stones on the pitch.

Speaking after the match, a furious Matano condemned the referee for overturning the goal, saying it was a shame it happened at this time.

“It was FIFA referees who officiated the match, it’s nonsense! we can’t let a FIFA referee make such a decision, it’s a goal, it’s a goal no matter what, the referee must respect the rules of the game and respect them,” Matano lamented.

The 0-0 result meant defending champions Tusker remained second on the log with 43 points, nine behind leaders Kakamega Homeboyz while 19-time record champion Gor is third with 42 points.

Elsewhere, KCB FC were held 2-2 by Kariobangi Sharks, Police FC drew 1-1 with Talanta FC while Posta Rangers and Bidco United also drew 1-1.
