CHENNAI: A day after an eight-member gang robbed a private financial company in Vadapalani, police in the city arrested another defendant, Kishore, and seized Rs 1.75 lakh from him. He was arrested based on information from H Syed Riyaz (22), who was handed over to police by the public after falling off the bike while fleeing on Tuesday.

Police said most of the defendants were first-time offenders and it was just a trial run for them before they attempted a big heist. After investigation, police said Riyaz from Virugambakkam was a second-year student. Based on his information, the police launched a hunt for the other defendants – Ismail, Bharat,

Kishore, Jony, Tamilselvan and Mottai. “Before the split, Tamilselvan had given Kishore `1.75 lakh of loot. Five special teams rushed into southern Tamil Nadu where the rest of the gang is believed to have been hiding,” a senior police officer said.

On Tuesday evening, the police found all the two-wheelers used for the robbery in a parking lot of a suburban train station. On Tuesday, the gang broke into the office and threatened staff with knives and stole the money.
