The official added that “unfortunately, one civilian was killed and 10 others injured due to the suicide bomber’s explosion” during the incident.

Without providing further details, Zadran said security personnel cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

The explosion, according to eyewitnesses, took place in the Alawdin region, a locality next to the Russian Embassy, ​​and the number of victims could be higher than expected.

No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility.

In a similar explosion, for which the extremist group Daesh or Islamic State has claimed responsibility, a suicide bombing outside a mosque in the western city of Herat left 18 people dead, including a prominent cleric, and injured 23 others, officials said.
