Financial firm employee dies after falling from hotel balcony in Odisha’s Puri

Puri: A tourist died on Friday after falling from the sixth floor of the Om Leisure Resort located inside the Krishna Sea Sight Club on Baliapanda Road in the Puri town of Odisha.

The deceased was identified as Lingaraj Sahoo from Udayapur area under Astaranga police boundary. An employee of Annapurna Finance Pvt Ltd, a microfinance company based in Bhubaneswar, he was in town with his colleagues to attend a meeting.

According to sources, residents residing in the apartment spotted the body and informed the local police.

After being informed, SP Kanwar Vishal Singh arrived at the scene with a team from Baliapanda Police Station and recovered the body. An investigation has been opened into the suspicious death.

“We don’t know if he jumped off the balcony or if someone else was involved in this incident,” a resident said.

Annapurna Finance HR Manager Kailash Chandra Sahoo said he found Lingaraj asleep on the floor when he arrived in the room after the review meeting. “As he wasn’t feeling well, I changed his clothes and took off his shoes, but he continued to sleep on the floor. When I woke up around 3:30 a.m. to turn off the air conditioning, I found him sleeping on the bed,” he said.

Kailash added that he received a call from fellow Rama Chandra Panigrahi around 5 a.m. asking where Lingaraj was.
