Financial firm staff member arrested for faking robbery in Amritsar

Defendant Sukhpal Singh, 26, from Barnala, who works at the Jandiala office of Satin Credit Care Network Limited, told police that three people robbed him 41,000 and a tab on June 8 as he rode his bike back after collecting money from some customers. Later, he confessed to faking the theft.

An employee of a financial company was arrested on Thursday for allegedly faking a robbery near the village of Talwandi, under the Chatiwind police station of the rural district of Amritsar.

Defendant Sukhpal Singh, 26, from Barnala, who works at the Jandiala office of Satin Credit Care Network Limited, told police that three people robbed him 41,000 and a tab on June 8 as he rode his bike back after collecting money from some customers.

Based on his complaint, a case of theft with force) was registered.

Chatiwind Station Officer (SHO), Manmeet Singh, told the inquest that police found loopholes in Sukhpal’s statements. On further questioning, he confessed to faking the theft and depositing the money into his friend’s account. A new case under sections 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public official, or by a banker, trader or agent) and 182 (false information) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed against Sukhpal.
