The order was issued on the basis of an internal investigation and in response to recent proceedings by the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) and the arrests of several people, including United States police officers. customs and finance of the VID.

According to Reirs, the criminal group arrested by the Latvian authorities is made up of high-level VID employees, adding that what happened was not a coincidence.

“Those arrested are not inspectors or junior customs officers,” the minister said.

Reirs thinks that in this situation, it is impossible to believe that no one at the institution was aware of what was happening under their noses.

the internal investigation looked into Jaunzeme’s actions. The report concluded that there were indications of wrongful non-performance or late, negligent or shoddy performance of a particular order or task.

This may have caused considerable damage to the interests of the state. Jaunzeme’s actions may show signs of a disciplinary violation of Article 36 of the Law on Disciplinary Liability of State Officials, the ministry notes.

“Such crimes are only possible thanks to flaws in internal control mechanisms and insufficient supervision,” says the finance minister, adding that a thorough investigation is needed to find out how such a thing is possible in this institution. .

“That’s why I’ve made the decision to remove the chief executive of VID from her position,” Reirs said.

He also pointed out that in the last two reviews Jaunzeme received a low rating.

“There is no way to avoid responsibility any longer. It is also impossible to keep her in her post, so that no interference in the disciplinary file is possible”, underlined the Minister of Finance.
