The Washington Commanders defensive coordinator was the talk of the day, and that wasn’t about anything happening at the Ashburn training grounds today. His social media activity drew attention to political views during his time in Washington. Recent tweets have questioned the capital’s January 6 attack and compared it to the protests that swept the country two years ago following the death of George Floyd while in police custody.
Today he was asked about those comments on social media and he called January 6 “dust” while describing the negative effects of the Floyd protests on the country. Everyone from Ron Rivera to Jonathan Allen were asked to comment on Del Rio’s latest controversy, but everyone currently employed/under contract with the team wanted nothing to do with giving the press a quote to run with. Del Rio issued an apology for the “dust” comment while saying he supports all peaceful forms of protest (unless they occur during the national anthem).
Jack Del Rio specifically apologizes for calling the Jan. 6 insurrection “dust” while maintaining his “comments condemning violence in communities across the country.” https://t.co/kwnrGNOafX
