London news: The capital’s biggest stories as children warned to stay away from funfair due to ‘stabbings’ and man stabbed in his own home

A funfair in Greenwich was forced to close last night as local children were warned to stay home amid reports of a stabbing at a nearby funfair. In footage shared online, crowds of hundreds can be seen gathered near Blackheath as police helicopters circle overhead.

The Met said a stabbing was reported, but they have yet to find a victim. Council leader Dan Thorpe urged parents who know their children are in the area to make “urgent contact” and get them to stay away from the fair.

Elsewhere in east London, a man was stabbed in his own home. The victim, 40, from Barking, was being treated in hospital when police last updated him. A crime scene remains in place at his home.

Meanwhile, in south London, commuters faced major delays between Croydon and Streatham after the sad death of a person on the line. Southern Rail confirmed the tragic news in a tweet saying: “It is with great sadness that we report that a person has been struck by a train between East Croydon and Streatham.”
