Nigerian woman allegedly assaulted for demanding her salary in Italy

A Nigerian woman, identified as Beauty living in the town of Catanzaro, in southern Calabria, Italy, has accused her employer of hitting her for demanding her salary on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old who reported the assault at a police station in Soverato backed up her report with video of the alleged assault which she filmed as police opened the investigation. According to InfoMigrants, Beauty, who worked for a beach club and restaurant in Soverato, near Catanzaro, said she filmed the incident and broadcast it live on social media.

The report revealed that Beauty was accompanied by her lawyer, Filomena Pedullà, to report the matter to the police station. The alleged attacker was identified in the Italian press as the owner of a beach club and a restaurant. He is said to be the son of a retired rifleman and has no criminal record.

It was, however, mentioned that Carabineros police were investigating potential charges of bodily harm, theft and threats after Beauty’s reported assault, according to Pedullà. Pedullà said investigators are reviewing payment slips. “Investigators are reviewing data regarding the contract and the verbal agreement between the two parties,” she added.

“The young woman received a bank transfer of €200 when an agreement had been reached for the payment of €600”, explained Pedullà. .

After the employer’s reaction to Beauty’s request for money, Pedullà added that she “suffered a hand injury, evidenced by a bloody fingernail, bruised shoulder and a scalp injury.” .

This report comes exactly a week after an Italian, Filippo Ferlazzo, beat a disabled Nigerian, Alika Ogorchukwu to death on the street of Civitanova Marche.

Director General of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the autopsy report was released that Ogorchukwu died of suffocation.

The Italian report says Ferlazzo has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but is still in police custody.
