Punjab: Police donate 3 days salary to rape victim family

Kapurthala, April 16 (UNI) In a good move, all police officers in this district on Saturday donated three days salary amounting to Rs one lakh to the mother of a blind and physically handicapped rape victim who allegedly was raped by her real uncle on March 7. SSP Dayama Harish Omparkash today handed over Rs one lakh in cash to the rape victim’s mother in his office in the presence of SPs Jagjit Singh Saroya, Sarabjit Singh and Manjit Kaur. The District Red Cross Society also donated groceries and clothes to the family of the rape victim on the initiative of Deputy Commissioner Deepti Uppal. The Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Mahesh Kumar Sharma summoned the concerned SHO to review the case of the rape victim and also listened to the deplorable account of the victim on March 11 in order to provide financial assistance to the victim’s family. The 21-year-old blind and physically handicapped girl unable to walk was raped by her uncle while alone in her house in Mehmadwal village under Fattudhinga police station on 7 March. UNI XC SHK2130
