PPB releases revised shooting incident statistics dashboard (pictured)

In an ongoing effort to empower our community with public safety insights, the Portland Police Bureau has revised the Shooting Incident Statistics Dashboard. The dashboard is available here: https://www.portland.gov/police/open-data/shooting-incident-statistics

Revisions include:

* Map of shooting incidents in the neighborhood
In the “Neighborhood Incident” tab, select a neighborhood from the drop-down menu to view a graduated scorecard of shooting incidents that have occurred in a neighborhood. Dots represent block-level locations with a firing incident. The point size increases as the volume of shots at the location increases.

* Usage tips
Users can hover over data points to see additional stats, such as percent change from previous time period or shot volume by type at location.

*Additional open data fields
The number of casings recovered during the incident and the time of firing (2 hour interval) have been added as a field in the open data upload.

More detailed information regarding the functionality of the Fire Incident Statistics Dashboard can be found in the Dashboard menu under the Visualization Walkthrough section.

The police office continues to work with partners to reduce the number of shootings. Solving crimes related to the shootings requires the help of the community, including witnesses and bystanders to come forward and provide information to the police. This can be very difficult for people to do, but it is often necessary to start the process of holding shooters accountable and breaking the cycle of violence on our neighborhood streets.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon offers cash rewards of up to $2,500 cash for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in any unsolved crime and tipsters can remain anonymous.
