Salary of 12 teachers in Odisha arrested for absenteeism, negligence – The New Indian Express

JAJPUR: The district education office has suspended the salaries of 12 teachers from three government schools in Jajpur block for remaining on unauthorized leave and being negligent in their duties.

The salaries of seven teachers, including the Headmistress of Abdalpur Upper Primary School, Kalpana Behera, were arrested for unauthorized absence.

Similarly, the salaries of five teachers, including the principal of Mahaveer Chowk Primary School Gouranga Chandra Mohanty, were withheld for neglect of duty.

Official sources said that following repeated complaints about teacher absenteeism, District Education Officer (DEO) of Jajpur Ranjan Kumar Giri on Saturday paid a surprise visit to schools in Abdalpur and Banapur. Seven teachers were found on unauthorized leave in Abdalpur and Banapur.

Giri ordered to stop the salary of the seven teachers for the month of May. He also demanded explanations from the principal and headmistress of the two schools.

The DEO then made a surprise visit to Mahaveer Chowk Primary School and found that the classrooms and campus were not properly cleaned. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the food prepared for the midday meal and found that the food grains were stored in unsanitary conditions.

Giri withheld the salaries of five teachers for neglect of duty. He also demanded explanations from the school director and the four teachers.
