Sherie Cornish Gordon Named Cal Poly Humboldt Vice President of Finance and Administration

Sherie Cornish Gordon, who has played a leading role in a series of important initiatives, including the polytechnic implementation, has been named vice president of finance and administration.

She has served in the role on an interim basis since March and previously held the role for nearly a year.

“Sherie has proven to be an incredible asset to Cal Poly Humboldt, both as Chief of Staff and twice in the role of Acting Vice President. We are fortunate that she has agreed to take on this role. new role, and I know the division will benefit from his strategic thinking, commitment to results, and relentless dedication to our students,” said Cal Poly Humboldt President Tom Jackson, Jr..

As vice president, Gordon will oversee areas that have a significant impact on campus operations, including budget, accounting, facilities, human resources, emergency response, policing, and more. Additionally, the Office of Title IX, DHR and Clery will return to the Administrative Affairs Division under Gordon’s direction.

She will continue to co-lead the broad Polytechnic implementation with Vice President Jenn Capps, and will remain deeply involved in specific projects including rebranding and marketing efforts. She will bring additional expertise to budget planning, the development of the new campus master plan, major new facility projects on and off campus, and efforts to expand housing and health care services.

Gordon has served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the President since 2019, where she was responsible for coordinating important campus-wide initiatives, engaging with internal and external constituents, and working closely with initiatives and organizations. strategic operations. The chief of staff position is currently held on an interim basis by Timothy Downs, who was most recently president of Northern State University in South Dakota.

Gordon came to Humboldt in 2019 from Albany State University in Georgia, where she was the athletic director for that Division II program. Prior to her time at Albany State University, she served with the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in Charlotte, North Carolina as Senior Associate Commissioner for External and Business Administration. She has also held senior management positions at Norfolk State University in Virginia. She has been recognized for her leadership by the Albany and Charlotte Chambers of Commerce.

She has solid experience related to project management, internal and external stakeholder engagement, corporate relations, strategic planning and student success. In previous roles and now at Humboldt, she has demonstrated success in building community partnerships, managing tax affairs and creating new revenue streams.

Gordon earned a master’s degree in sports and recreation administration from Temple University in Philadelphia and a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Morgan State University in Baltimore.
