Spanish national among two injured in Turkana bandit attack » Capital News

Nairobi, Kenya, March 18 – A Spanish national was among two people injured on Thursday when armed bandits attacked a tourist vehicle along the Kitale-Lodwar highway.

Police say three armed bandits ordered the driver to stop the vehicle, but he defied and accelerated in an attempt to escape the scene, prompting the assailants to fire twice at the front of said vehicle .

“During the incident, the driver and a passenger who was in the front seat suffered gunshot wounds,” police said.

The driver managed to drive the vehicle to Kainuk Health Clinic where it was confirmed that an identified Spanish national Diana Astropetros, 40, was hit in the right foot with the bullet still lodged.

“The driver suffered minor gunshot wounds to the right thigh, was treated and discharged,” police said.

The Spanish national was referred to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital for further treatment in critical condition.

The 11 passengers who were in the vehicle at the time of the attack have been found according to the police.

Police said a multi-agency security team has been deployed to the area to pursue the bandits.
