Patiala, May 28

The Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) will hold a protest outside the Minister of Education’s residence in Barnala tomorrow against the non-payment of a Punjabi teacher’s salary for the past 14 months.

Harinder Singh, a government school teacher, had received his last salary in February 2021. Since then, Harinder Singh, who teaches Punjabi at the government middle school in Kachhwa village in Bhunerheri block of Patiala district, has been teaching students without pay. Angered by this, government school teachers’ unions decided to stage a state-level protest outside the Minister of Education’s residence in Barnala.

Vikram Dev, State Chairman, DTF, said Harinder worked under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), before opting for regularization at the Department of Education in 2018. Harinder reportedly completed his probation in 2020 but he did not receive a regularization order citing a police case against him during a 2012 teacher unrest, Dev said.

“Harinder was due to serve a two-year probation period in 2020, however, the government did not issue him with regularization orders,” said Dev, who claimed he was targeted for leading various teacher agitations. .

Meanwhile, Harinder Singh, who has two children, said: ‘I’m really disappointed. I taught students. However, I am not paid. The government should immediately release my regularization orders so that I receive my salary.
