The finance committee of El Dorado city council hopes to finalize the city’s 2022 budget proposal at a meeting scheduled for today at 2 p.m. in the conference room on the second floor of City Hall.
Council members are expected to review the proposed budgets that have been submitted by Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer’s administrative department, the Department of Public Works, the South Arkansas Regional Airport at Goodwin Field, and the water utilities. from El Dorado.
The meeting follows on from budget talks that began last fall when the finance committee met separately with chiefs of police and fire departments.
Board member Vance Williamson, who is also chairman of the finance committee, said he would like to add the final draft budget to the agenda for a vote at the regular council meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday.
In an email last week, Micah Larry – of local accounting firm Emrich & Scroggins, LLP, who was hired last year as the city’s treasurer – explained that if the 2021 budget figures were included in the 2022 draft budget for information purposes, the actual 2021 figures had not yet been finalized.
In addition to voting on the 2022 budget proposal, the city council has yet to close the 2021 city budget.
