Traffic flow is to be improved on six busy sections of Lucknow by correcting road engineering flaws, installing traffic lights and implementing the e-challan system as part of the Smart City mission.
These six sections are Hazratganj to Charbagh via Ashok Marg, Hazratganj to Mahanagar Gol crossing via Sikandarabad crossing, Hazratganj to Chowk via Parivartan Chowk, Charbagh to Awadh crossing, Hazratganj to Loreto crossing via Bandariyabagh crossing and Telibagh crossing on the SGPGI route.
Roads should be made free of encroachment and CCTV cameras will be installed at strategic points for CCTV. Lucknow Police and traffic officials discussed the city’s traffic streamlining plan during a high-level meeting with UP government officials recently.
Officials from Lucknow Municipal Corporation, Lucknow Development Authority, National Traffic Directorate, Public Works Department and National Highway Authority of India were present at the meeting.
“As part of the smart city plan, traffic flow on six sections of the city is to be improved. Different ingredients needed to make model stretches out of them were discussed at the meeting,” a traffic department official said. “Different routes had been studied to identify bottlenecks and their causes. The plan will be executed accordingly on these sections,” the official added.
He said the plan was to remove bottlenecks by correcting road engineering flaws (such as large roundabouts at some level crossings that affect traffic), removing encroachments and ensuring no traffic parking on the sides of the roads.
He said traffic flow will be aided by the installation of synchronized traffic lights and the deployment of traffic wardens at strategic locations. In addition, CCTVs will be installed for 24-hour video surveillance and facilities such as medical ambulance and other technical support will be provided in case of any crisis situation, he added.
